The Morris Loeb Lectures, given annually since 1972, examine important developments in physics. In this lecture on the history of the Radiation Laboratory at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Edward Purcell discusses the state of experimental physics prior to World War II, and describes the establishment of the Rad Lab, its goals, its staffing, and its successes.
